Walking the World

One of the things I like to do for fun is to go on walking tours of cities around the world. Sometimes I revisit places I have been to in the past. In recent days, I have been to London, Pisa, Venice, Cologne, Madrid, and Nice.

How can I do this?

Often I walk around cities that I would like to visit in the future! For instance, I recently saw Buenos Aires, Argentina.

How is this possible? Especially, in the age of Covid-19?

YouTube has thousands of video walking tours, of practically every city of any importance in the world. All free for the viewing. Just type in the words "walking tour" and the name of a city, and a list will pop up.

There is no better way (short of actually being there) of getting a feel for what a country is like: the people, the streets, the houses, the shops, the restaurants, and so on. Some tours are narrated, many are not.

On my computer, I watch in full-screen mode, which makes the walking tours very realistic. Many of the videos are shot in 4K. If you have a 4K television or computer screen, the realism is amazing.

So, if you would like to take a half-hour trip out of present reality, take a walk in London, or Paris, or Marrakech, or Williamsburg, or some other beautiful city that takes your fancy.
