Answering Machine ....I'm Not Home Right Now

You just call out my name and you know where ever I am
Anyway old Carol King song use to love it
This is about telephone calling people
What are the rules
What is the etiquette on phone calling people
How do you feel about it
A friend of mine says Bob
You don’t call back that day
Call immediately
Another friend says I call
when I get the chance
When I can get to it
I don’t call back if it is important they will call me again
Or what about those internet emails that you get

Another Way of Looking at Corona

The world is stopped, on pause, from its frenetic pace.
Perhaps people, the earth, and our busy-ness need a rest.

The roads are empty.
Perhaps people see better “nearsighted” now and then.

People look for groceries and food.
Perhaps people appreciate better the abundance we took for granted.

People’s daily routines are all “off-kilter” and disrupted.
Perhaps the habits were also a box that now is not.

Some people are bored with newly found free time.
Perhaps they can now feel “allowed and permitted” to think, to imagine, to create.

Another Day in Paradise

We loved going to the Kimberly Diner.

It was very small, and the patrons were very loud, but the food was very good - simple things, breakfast and lunch food.

The waitress and owner would call everyone “Happy people,” as in her greeting, “Hello, happy people,” or “What can I get for you happy people?”

That’s why we called it the Happy People Diner.

One day, as we were paying, I casually asked the cashier, “So how’s it going?” He replied immediately, and surprisingly, “Another day in paradise.”

I was amazed. What an interesting thing to say.

And Today Is Just the Beginning

Today I am feeling better than ever.

I build the bridge that completes itself.

I expect good things to happen to me today.

I look forward to being happily surprised.

Why is today so special?

Because it’s right now.

I am like a great tree out in the sun.

I feel young, alive, like an explorer once again.

I feel really, really great.

Let good things find me today:

A butterfly, a surprise lunch place,

A nod from God that all is well.

I am open to flashes of inspiration and enthusiasm.

Alone

Introduction

There’s a difference between alone without a life’s partner yet and being lonely. I wrote this song to explain the difference as I’ve come to understand it.

The actual song itself is available only in spoken form, as requested by Philip.

About the Author

Phil Gross has written poetry and turned them into songs since he was about 19 years old. Many people write in diaries or journals.
Poetry and songs are his journals, documenting his life, strife, loves and the passing of his years.

All the lonely people

All the lonely people
Where do they all come from
Ah the Beatles not to date myself
I remember their debut singing on the Ed Sullivan show
They kind of shocked me with their performance
Funny I can still remember that
I can have so many memories both good and bad
My memories can have a direct effect on my emotions and actions.
If I am feeling lonely do I consider
being with myself can be an amazing thing if
I can find peace and joy in the stillness of being alone.
Even if it isn’t quiet can I be in the quiet
Am I running to avoid it

Afraid of an Outcome - Losing Your Home

A friend called me this morning, and was really upset about
something that was going on in his life,
something that he could not control the outcome,
as far as what was going to happen with this particular thing.

He thought he was losing his house. He was not paying his bills.
In fact, he had the money to pay his bills, but he just chose
to spend his money on something else.
This is a big thing for him, a scary thing for him about
where he is going to live, and what is going to happen.

Addendum For When Johnny Comes Marching Home

Introduction

While this song about the futility of war, was originally a Scottish dirge, I’ve adapted its melody with new words which are my opinion and expression of the futility of war
after my time and experience serving on 2 aircraft carriers, flying combat missions in Vietnam. I wasn’t the flyer, but I was part of the squadron.
One other point: the words “haru, haru,” which appear many times in the song are the Scottish equivalent of us saying “harah, harah” which the Irish version uses. And away we go.

Abundance

Abundance

What does abundance mean for you in your life?
Money, health, material stuff, people.
What is it you are looking to have in your life?

Think of a magnet which has an invisible field,
Which either attracts or repels materials.

If you think of your self as a magnet
To things that you are seeking to have in your life,
Your perception of how you attract or repel things,
Is part of how this magnet works.
